Safety Brief- Outlaw Shootout at the Cabin Armory and Training Center

ALWAYS KEEP THE GUN UNLOADED UNTIL READY TO USE.

Cold Range.

  • No firearm handling or loading in the range until you are commanded to do so.

  • Rifles and carbines require a flagged chamber when left unattended at the designated table faced in a safe direction

  • Firearm manipulation is permitted at the designated table in the adjacent classroom.

  • Any violation will result in a DQ.

ALWAYS KEEP THE GUN POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.

180 Degrees Rule.

  • The muzzle of your firearm cannot exceed a 180 degrees plane facing downrange.

  • The imaginary line extends to your left and right on the shooting line as well as to the ceiling and floor.

  • Any violation will result in a DQ.

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO SHOOT.

Moving and shooting.

  • While shooting on the move is encouraged, the shooter's trigger finger should be on the frame or slide, away from the trigger and trigger guard while not actively engaging a target.  All firearms that have a manual safety or decocker must be engaged between mounting your gun and establishing a sight picture.

  • If the shooter drops something during the course of fire, do not attempt to pick it up. If the shooter drops their firearm, do not attempt to catch it.

  • Violations will result in a DQ.

  • Negligent discharges, as well as striking the floor, walls, or ceiling will result in a DQ.

Range Commands

  • Load and Make Ready - Load and chamber firearm while muzzle pointed downrange, engage any and all safety devices and reholster.

  • Shooter Ready, Standby - Remain in the prescribed starting position and wait for the timer to beep to begin the course of fire. If you are not “Ready” notify the RO verbally or by raising your non shooting hand.

  • Unload and Show Clear - If you have finished the course of fire remove the source of ammunition and open the action of your firearm for inspection.

  • Range is Clear- Once the RO has confirmed the firearm is clear they will instruct you to holster and declare the Range is Clear and safe to go downrange to score and paste targets. It is only after the “Clear” command that you can pick up anything you may have dropped throughout the course of fire.

Cease Fire!!!  or Stop! Stop! Stop! - Can be called by anyone in the range. In the event of a Cease fire, stop what you are doing immediately and wait for further instructions.
